Who Gets to Speak in Creative Education?
This is the second in a short series. ALL ARE WELCOME to this moderated panel with speaker contributions where we ask….What happens to equity work when freedom of speech is framed as neutral rather than political?
This talk responds directly to the new UK Freedom of Speech duties and the confusion they’ve created in creative education. It asks how “free speech” operates in practice — and who is most exposed when speech is treated as neutral.
Universities are implementing policy but do we have shared understanding? The role of FACE here is CLARITY, not campaigning. We will focus on, protest, and institutional responsibility, the gap between “lawful speech” and safe learning environments and ask why marginalised students and staff are often asked to absorb the risk.
